That’s a smoker she’s using - it calms the bees. It’s a standard piece of equipment for beekeepers. (You burn punk wood ore damp burlap in it.) I’m a little surprised she’s not wearing the usual white cotton coveralls, but that’s her choice, along with the hat and veil. My father didn’t like wearing gloves, because it was harder for him to find the queen or feel the bees. (Touch matters.)
Bees are mostly fairly gentle. But some things they really don’t like: wool, leather, perfumes. And getting caught in hair, clothing, or other tight places. (The spacing in hives is very carefully set so they have enough room.)
As someone who has experienced child abuse (which ultimately led to acute paranoia and anxiety) first hand, I’m glad this video was made. More people need to be aware that how they treat their children can have a long lasting effect on their child’s health and mental and emotional stability.
